Yale University

Residential Colleges

Before arriving as a freshman each student is randomly assigned to one of the twelve colleges, giving Yalies a built-in community from the moment they arrive. Each college is home to a microcosm of our undergraduate student body as a whole, allowing students to have the cohesiveness and intimacy of a small school while still enjoying the vibrancy and resources of a world-class university.

Yale Residential Colleges

“The residential college system here at Yale gives you a great opportunity to expand your horizon and meet people outside of the football team. It is important to not be closed off and one dimensional here because there are so many opportunities to have great new experiences. Our residential colleges surround us with great different people to ensure this is possible.” – Foye Oluokun ‘17

Student Life

Yale University makes every student’s happiness its mission. The small college feel at a larger university, dining halls in each residential college and others around campus, advisors and mentors living in each college, and constant activity make Yale students happy while they enjoy a superior quality of life.

“Life at Yale revolves around a diverse culture of students who embrace the tradition of excellence that our community embodies. Yale presents a rewarding experience athletically, socially, and most importantly academically. Going to Yale has been the opportunity of a lifetime and I have made friendships and created networks that will last me a lifetime. Go Bulldogs.”  – Spencer McManes ‘17

Yale Degree

“A Yale degree distinguishes you from other college graduates because it is proof that for four years you interacted and competed mentally, athletically, and socially with the top undergraduate students in the world. It is both a reminder of your past, four imperative years of personal maturation in a unique world-class environment, and the key to a brighter future, one filled with lasting change for the betterment of humanity.” – Jon Bezney ‘18

Financial Aid

Yale admits students without regard of their ability to pay and meets 100%of demonstrated financial need. For all students. Without loans. Yale awards all financial aid on the basis of financial need, with the goal of making a Yale education affordable to all students and families. Financial aid is based on the total cost of attendance, which includes tuition, room and board, books, and personal expenses. Families whose total gross income is less than $65,000 (with typical assets) are not expected to make a contribution towards their child’s Yale education. Over 10% of Yale undergraduate families have an Expected Family Contribution of $0.
